Exhibition Text
Glimpsing at the open sea, the sun kissed the horizon. It is great to live in the moment! Now, people: pose for the rest of your life, cover your eyes, lean against the wall, hide under a table.
I was on top of a mountain wearing a red dress and waiting. When it became active the volcano slowly put on a radiant red-orange costume, covering black porous stone so we almost looked alike, a small and a huge triangle. I had expected cruder, pyromaniac action: flames, screaming, spectacle. But only a glowing river burst out and draped its own cone and breath of heat, caught me like panic.
In the sublime chaos of eruption, I started talking to the mountain. I said: humans puke too. We call it sickness. Bad food, virus, something gets rejected. I said: we shove soft rocks under our skin, make new curves, fake edges, much like the volcano spitting stones and lava that become its new extremities.
A thick dark cloud rose above, and the contrast made the red gown glow even brighter.
The collateral damage of the eruption will not be forgotten. The pyroclastic flows that bubbly encased everything drew ornaments visible from above. For example, the two maidens of Pompeii, who turned out to be two young men, can be read as letters: r, u, n, f, a, s, t. Of course, it depends on the side you look from and who is burning…
Whether one runs or stays, lava runs with them. The coat also came for me, shimmering and smoky, and I slipped beneath it, overcome by visions.
The sun is gone. The mountain glows. I got this shiny, smoky gown and forever exist only in this pose.
